HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle appeared on Fox Business Tuesday morning, where he was interviewed about Huntsville's "bulletproof" economy. The appearance was spurred by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine ranking Huntsville's No. 1 in its "10 Best Cities for 2009" based largely on solid job opportunities. Talk about a bulletproof economy. This northern Alabama city represents critical mass for the nation's missile-defense and aerospace industries. The medical and life-sciences industries are thriving, too. Thousands of new jobs are pouring into town. With a few exceptions, business in Huntsville is so healthy that Mayor Tommy Battle has a pleasant problem: "We have more jobs than we can fill."


The U.S. House passed a bill Wednesday that includes more than $8.7 billion to continue implementing the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decision.

That's a $667 million increase from 2008, according to U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville.
